Lawrence Weiner is a central figure to conceptual art and focuses primarily on typographic texts. Surprisingly minimal in his artwork, he feels it says everything it needs to without all the visual distractions. Instead of conveying a message through imagery, he instead relies entirely on text. Lawrence considers it just as powerful which seems to work. Some might criticize him for it’s lack of creative vision, however one could argue that it has just that. The reason being that he arranges the text in an interesting way, not always the same, and the written message is usually really deep. It something you tend to have to read more than once to really understand. It’s certainly thought provoking, that I can admit.

His medium is mainly paint and his canvas is often a wall. His art is always text which remains his style. The best way to explain it is that language in his eyes, is another way of projecting art.

Although Lawrence’s work isn’t what I would off the bat consider art, it technically is. It’s more art for the sake of it’s deep thought behind it. I’m okay with it, but it isn’t my favorite art style. I can respect it and understand it, but I prefer more visual stimuli. That is just my personal preference.
